Learning the Office
The Situation
Problem: How do I onboard employees who have never worked in our environment before or done this job before?
The solution I came up with was to create an interactive storyline project that is designed to inform employees about content related to their job but also give them a visual example of how this content looks in the "real world". Pair content knowledge with visual learning cues.
Design Document
Below is the design document used for this project. This project was designed to handle the issue of "on-boarding". In the ideal setting, the new employee would work on this while their supervisor organized their tasks/events for their first day.

Project Management
To keep track and monitor the various tasks that are involved in the creation of this project, I elected to use the project management application known as Trello.
Trello allowed me to keep track on the progress made being made on the various tasks needed to be successful. I also had the ability to share this information with others.

Action Mapping
To help make sure that each piece of the design was supporting the overall goal, I relied on action mapping. In this screenshot, you can see how I was trying to focus on specific behaviors which could be used to measure the success of the project. This screenshot was from early in the project designing phase.

Rapid Prototype
To help guide the development stage of the process, I wanted to create a quick visual prototype of my envisioned solution. This screenshot from my prototype was actual used in the final project.
The main idea with this prototype was to highlight how I wanted the on-boarding to reflect more of the real life visuals than the traditional cartoonist elearning visuals.
So in this case, I elected to use a realistic human avatar and a realistic looking office.

Unique Storyboarding
Since this project relied heavily on the idea of pairing content with visual cues, I elected to create a visual storyboard that revolved around specific visual environments.
Rather than use the traditional storyboarding template, I decided to plan out my specific scenes using images or screenshots of the desired environment.
In this screenshot, I planned out the key components of some of the slides located within the Individual's Desk Scene (environment).

Designer's Commentary
Below is a video reflection on this project. My hope is that this video will fill the gap between the design document and experiencing the project yourself.
